Angela Todd is approachable, light-hearted and a great listener – not necessarily adjectives you use to describe the average interior designer.
Perhaps the difference in her approach comes from her untraditional journey to an interior design career. Angela shared her mother’s passion for design as far back as she can remember. “Friends and visitors would frequently ask my mom for the name of her designer. When she told them she did it, they couldn’t believe her natural talent. She always wished for the courage to pursue design for a living – and it was heartbreaking to me that she didn’t pursue her dream.
At the age of eight years old, Angela was hit by a truck while crossing the street in front of her home. She spent months in rehabilitation recovering from broken bones and a severe head injury. The head injury caused her artistic ability to flourish in ways that amazed her teachers and doctors. A new facet of her personality was awakened. Mathematics, always an easy subject for Angela, had to be entirely relearned. Drawing, painting and writing became an overnight passion for Angela, and she was soon winning art and writing competitions. Still, Angela was determined to be financially independent as an adult. She studied business and worked her way into competitive corporate marketing and sales. She excelled but it didn’t satisfy her creative urges. The urge was satisfied after business hours with creative endeavors, including helping friends and neighbors with interior design in their homes. “For several years I worked essentially two full time jobs and it became exhausting working everyday and still not being fulfilled.” Angela smiles, “Then I had what I call a creative awakening. I knew my priorities were out of sync. I realized I wasn’t following what I really wanted, just like my mom.” Within a few months, she left her corporate job, enrolled in a private design school and started her design business.
In 2006, Angela Todd Designs launched with impressive momentum. Angela fast became recognized as an interior designer in the Portland design community. She is most well-known for helping homeowners infuse their personality and style into their spaces.
